Garfield County is ready for a change in leadership. That change begins with Jonathan Godes – his race for the County Commission is vital for creating a future in Garfield County where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
We all want to live in a place where our families can thrive rather than worry about whether our water is clean, whether we’ll have enough of it, or whether we can even afford our monthly bills.
But families in Garfield County are feeling the squeeze from all sides right now. Our neighborhoods are becoming more expensive and we’re facing the weight of out-of-state industries wanting to expand and threaten our communities. We need a County Commissioner who will prioritize common sense, common ground, and the families that live here over corporate interests. Jonathan Godes is that leader.

As the former mayor of Glenwood Springs during the Grizzly Creek Fire, Jonathan Godes has proven his ability to lead our communities and county through turbulent times by centering what real people need right now.
When our drinking water was threatened by that wildfire, he worked with local experts and families to protect our water and keep it flowing. With data centers knocking at our door and out-of-state interests looking to expand their footprints so close to the Colorado River and our drinking water, we need a leader like him who knows how to bring everyone to the table and find common-sense solutions that ensure our families have what we need to thrive.
On top of that, he has shown time and time again that he knows how to stabilize and bring down costs for our families using unique, homegrown solutions like employing clean local, reliable, and cheap energy to lower household energy bills. Or, working with developers to build more affordable housing options.

Why the Garfield County Commission Matters
County Commissioners are often overlooked, but they have a big impact on our day-to-day life in Garfield County
The Garfield Board of County Commission plays a big role in the success of our County and local communities. Made up of 3 members, currently all Republicans, the County Commission
- Leads strategic planning for Garfield County
- Manages land-use debates, like the expansion of oil and gas drilling or the Glenwood Springs gravel mine
- Manages our wildfire safety and resiliency efforts
- Navigates partnerships with the federal government around public lands and other Presidential Administration priorities in our area
- Creates the budget for county-wide senior services, transportation efforts, family programs, and more
Simply put, Garfield County Commissioners decide the future of our valley. Will we prioritize creating opportunities for the families living here to thrive or will we prioritize out-of-state industries that want to transfer our resources to their shareholders?
In recent years, the Garfield Board of County Commissioners has stood in line with the Trump Administration: supporting oil and gas leasing on the Roan Plateau, supporting new gravel mines near the Colorado River, and more. It’s time for a change.
Garfield County – and each of our towns from Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, and New Castle, to Silt, Rifle, Parachute , and Battlement Mesa– is one of the most unique counties in the country and we deserve leadership that’s rooted in our communities.
Jonathan Godes is that leader. That’s why Earthworks Action Fund is proud to support his efforts to become Garfield County’s next County Commissioner. He will be a much needed fresh voice on the Commission, bringing balance, common sense, and community voices to the Board.
